Children's dentist in Hendon

Good habits start early, and a child who enjoys visiting the dentist is far more likely to keep their teeth healthy for life. Our team takes time to put children at ease and explains everything in a way they understand.

When should my child first see a dentist?

The NHS recommends taking your child to the dentist as soon as their first teeth appear, and before their first birthday. Early visits are short and mainly about getting your child used to the chair, the lights and the dentist. Our guide Your child's first dental visit explains what to expect and how to prepare.

What we offer for children

  • Check-ups. We check your child's teeth and gums, look at how their teeth are developing and give you advice on brushing and diet.
  • Fluoride varnish. A protective varnish painted onto the teeth to strengthen the enamel and help prevent decay. It takes a minute and does not hurt.
  • Fissure sealants. A thin protective coating on the biting surfaces of the back teeth, where decay often starts.
  • White fillings. Tooth-coloured fillings if decay does develop.
  • Hygiene visits. A professional clean, including for children wearing braces.
  • X-rays. Including OPG (a panoramic X-ray) when we need to see developing adult teeth.

Tips for parents

  • Start brushing as soon as the first tooth appears, twice a day, with a fluoride toothpaste.
  • For children under three, use a smear of toothpaste. From three to six, use a pea-sized amount.
  • Encourage your child to spit out after brushing, not rinse, so the fluoride keeps working.
  • Keep sugary food and drinks to mealtimes, and give water or milk between meals.
  • Help with brushing until your child is around seven.

Frequently asked questions

How often should my child have a check-up?
Usually every six months, though we may suggest a different interval depending on your child's teeth.

My child is nervous. What can you do?
Tell us when you book. We can let them sit on your lap and take things at their pace.

Does my child need fissure sealants?
They are most useful on the adult back teeth soon after they come through, usually from about age six. We will advise at your child's check-up.
